Amit Das

Abstract

The gig or Freelance economy is a combination of flexibility of recruitment with a selection of adequate opportunities for gig workers. This ecosystem is growing in India, and such is leading to several new challenges as well for HR managers who have been traditionally connected with managing and engaging formal employees in an organisation. This, however, leads to major challenges which can affect the entire project timeline in an organisation. In order to manage such errors as well as assure security to gig workers, the government of India has implemented the social security code in 2020, but several challenges exist in its implementation, particularly in ensuring such workers are adequately engaged with the project and an efficient organisational HRM network is developed. This is considered important as workforce engagement is necessary for adequate performance which in turn, determines the chances of success for an organisation. With the growing Indian gig workforce, the need to develop an adequate framework has become significant which has been covered in the current study. The current study has suggested a noble framework to consider the need for engagement, government regulation, and project attributes while developing organisational HRM practices.
